What is NLP?
Neuro Linguistic Programming can be described as an attitude, a set of skills, techniques and empowering principles that combine to offer you the possibility of excellence in every area of your personal and professional life.
Powerful principles to enrich performance
NLP was developed in the seventies by Richard Bandler and John Grinder as a compelling model of effective communication and experience. NLP has developed enormously as a means of enhancing performance and realising human potential in every area of personal and business life. The name NLP highlights the three major components by which you experience life and the world around you, namely through neurology, language and the unconscious programmes that you run day to day, moment to moment. By understanding how these elements interact, you can begin to take more conscious control of your life, getting more of what you want. Using what you do unconsciously to better effect allows you to change your unhelpful or outdated programmes for new and better ways.
NLP offers you the tools for self-discovery enabling you to make effective and permanent changes to your environment, your behaviours and skills, your beliefs and values, how you perceive yourself and the way you communicate with others. It enables you to access your own inner resources so that you can perform more effectively and emphasises how by honouring the differences between people (normally a source of conflict) you can work together for the benefit of all.
A model of excellence
Bandler and Grinder studied several extraordinary therapists that had amazing success with their clients. They decided to build formal models of the linguistic and behavioural patterns of three of them. Virginia Satir, Milton Erickson and Fritz Perls.
They named the process 'modelling' and it is the foundation of the body of knowledge that is NLP.
Peak performers are often unable to explain how they achieve such excellent results, since they are operating at the level of unconscious competence. Without conscious awareness of what they're doing, it's very difficult for them to pass on their skills to others.
Modelling will give you the tools and techniques to "break down" exceptional performance into its component elements: strategies, beliefs, physiology and more. This knowledge will make it possible to re-create the skill of another person for yourself and achieve the same excellent results.
Effective tools for lasting change
NLP has been used successfully to generate powerful and sustainable change in many areas such as business, consultancy, financial success, sales, training, education, relationships, health, sport, entertainment and therapy.
The flexible and practical nature of NLP will allow you to enrich your personal experience and enhance your development and growth.
